Onboarding timeline: what your first week looks like
From the first login to the first full week of sales, day by day.
GreenPOS includes free data migration and onboarding on every plan. The setup itself is short: store settings, Metrc, staff and a register take about an hour for a single store. The rest of the week is about getting your data right and your team comfortable before the store goes live.
This is a typical week for a single store switching from another POS. Yours can move faster or slower depending on how clean your exports are.
Day 1: Store setup and Metrc
- Enter the store name, address, license number and timezone under Settings → Store Info. Every report, schedule and discount window runs on the store's timezone, so get it right first.
- Set store hours.
- Paste the store's Metrc User API Key under Settings → Compliance and run Check Permissions.
- Leave Store is live off. Your old POS keeps selling and reporting as normal.
Day 2: Catalog and inventory
- Create or import categories first.
- Import products, then fix any failed rows from the error list.
- Bring in packages, either from Metrc with Import Packages (lab state included) or from your export with the package import.
- Run Sync Inventory and work through the discrepancy report.
Day 3: Customers and loyalty
- Import customers with license numbers, expirations, consent flags and points balances.
- Spot-check twenty records against the old system.
- Set up loyalty and discount rules to match how you run them today.
Day 4: Team and hardware
- Invite staff by email (each person sets their own password) and give each a role: admin, manager, assistant manager, budtender or accountant.
- Set pay rates if you'll use time tracking.
- Connect and test receipt printers, label printers and scanners at each register.
- Walk each budtender through opening a register, a normal sale, a return and closing out.
Day 5: Cutover night
- Last sale on the old system. Confirm its receipts reached Metrc, then disconnect it from Metrc.
- Import a fresh customer export with Update existing records on, to catch anyone added this week.
- Run a full inventory sync.
Day 6: Go-live
- An admin turns on Store is live.
- Open each register with its opening cash count and ring the first sale.
- Check that sale's Metrc history, and check Failed Transactions on the Compliance page at midday and at close.
Day 7 and the week after
- Read the compliance score on the Compliance page. Each item comes with what to fix.
- Watch the nightly sync results in Sync history; the full comparison runs every other night.
- Merge duplicate customers as staff spot them at the counter.
- Pull your final sales reports from the old system before access ends.

Talk it through before you switch
Book a demo and bring your questions: what your current system can export, how your Metrc connection moves over, and what your first week would look like.
